The Amputee Center, a NEW 501c3 Nonprofit in Parkersburg, WV Grand Opening April 27, 2021
PARKERSBURG, WV (April 14, 2021)
We invite you to join us on April 27th, 2021, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. for the grand opening of a new place in town where amputees and community members at all levels of ability will be welcomed and motivated to exercise, improve their physical and emotional health, and learn about resources and volunteer opportunities for persons with limb loss. It is called The Amputee Center (TAC) and will be powered by “MOVExercise”.
The new facility, which is open to all, will offer personal training, group fitness classes, weight training, and line dancing, with modifications available to allow everyone to participate. Amputees may attend at no cost; a percentage of fees charged to the general public will directly support TAC. In addition to other equipment, a set of parallel bars is available for amputees to practice their steps.
Conveniently located in the plaza near the toll bridge, TAC is housed on the new premises of Miller Prosthetics & Orthotics, 2311 Ohio Avenue, Suite B, Parkersburg, WV (next to JoAnn Fabrics). As you enter the lobby, walk down the hallway to the right and you will find yourself in an uplifting space with high ceilings and a beautiful mural of the New River Gorge bridge.
TAC is not just a place for physical support but also emotional support for persons/families dealing with the trauma of limb loss. Plans to offer workshops, one-on-one consultations, and special activities are in the works. Reiki energy healing sessions will be available by Higher Visions to help alleviate phantom pain, depression, and stress.
The resource center will provide magazines, flyers, and brochures on available services for the limb loss community at the state, local, and national level.
